Jungle trekking and snorkeling with big fish.

Today was epic. We did the baguettes and juice for breakfast again (of course), and then paddled out to the pass that is right behind the house. the paddle to the break is about 1 mile, and half way across you have to navigate through some corals. its very pretty to see them in the morning with sunrise light. the coral heads start at water level and then drop off into blue darkness. The wave this AM was much bigger than we have underwater bodyboarded in the past. The bigger sets were closing out the whole pass entrance! We saw some huge fish, not sure the name but I know we ate a small one just like it the night before, and it was tasty haha. Watching the barrels from underwater was amazing. I can't get enough of that view point. its simply beautiful. The fish were out eating all over the reef, pretty much ignoring us again hah. I saw a morea eel at one point, and got a video of him. he looked pretty pissed like most eels do, he even showed me his teeth.. ouch. Some of the bigger sets (groups of waves) kind of scared me. we were in 4ft of water over razor sharp reef, and the waves were overhead (6ft), barreling and so powerful. If they caught you on a duck dive, or if you messed up body boarding... into the razor sharp reef you go! i never hit the reef but matt came out with some nice cuts. I took my reef hits a few days ago lol. I posted a bunch of pics below, and also need to make a video of the underwater barrel shots. I was looking all over for sharks again, since i really want to see one, but they were no where to be found. I know they are there. Mat often sees 100s feeding at sunset in the middle of the pass lol. The other day he also saw three, so I hope to see some soon. I guess someone accidentally caught a 20 ft tiger shark, right off where Teahupoo is at (the famous surf spot just down the street)... lol.

After snorkeling and underwater body surfing we came in and then went out to eat my favorite, sashimi, see pic below. soooooo good. They catch the fish in the morning and serve it for lunch. the sauce they give you is amazing too. After lunch i bought some lemons and limes to pour on my reef cuts to kill the coral that might be stuck in my skin. I guess this is the only way to kill them (I don't even know if this is true, but I did it anyway. It burned pretty good, which was expected haha.)

I felt like just laying down since we've been going non stop since I got here, but Mat had other plans. I guess he heard from a friend of his (Yannick) that there was a cool waterfall that was at the top of their property, but that you had to hike to it, in order to see it. It is on his private property, and i hear no one had been there in 6 years. So you can imagine that it was not a trail at all. we basically just climbed up the mountain. it was pretty technical, we had vertical climbs up wet and muddy slopes, just to get to the first level. we would hang onto anything that we could. branches, plants, roots, vines, rocks, whatever. It was really sketchy, half of the time i thought I was going to fall and slide down the mountain, or land in the creek, or fall down a waterfall haha. I wore my vibrams which were great for toe gripping on rocks and in mud. some of the plants were crazy. 15 ft tall ferns, and then this one plant, it had 2ft by 2.5 ft wide leaves, it made me think i was in avatar, or that we might see a dinosaur walk by haha. most of the hike was in the water, climbing up the waterfalls along the way. if there was no way to hike up the waterfall we would just find a way around it, making our own path or trail. We broke a lot of plant leaves off, but i realized that this place is so fertile, that 4 more plants will be growing in the same place in a month anyway. it took us over an hour of climbing up the sketchy waterfalls to make it to the top. along the way i would lean back and let the waterfalls land right on me to cool down. it was pretty epic. I had no free hands and i actually still have dirt under my fingernails haha, so i wasn't able to take a gopro. We plan to go back soon though, i need to get video and pics of this place. it was the funnest hike I've ever done! after the hike got us to the big waterfall, there ended up being two there. super high and beautiful. So amazing. I can't wait to go back there. the hike down seemed easier, but we lost our way and ended up finding a different way to get down. We both got covered in scratches, but it was a hike i'll never forget. I think I really loved that we were hiking somewhere so natural and so beautiful and also didn't have a trail. The plants were amazing too. they grew everywhere and on everything. Some looked a bit like house plants that i've seen before.

After that fun, I unlocked an iphone for Mat and then we had a coconut from the garden, which was delicious. We then worked on pics for a while then had chinese style possion cru! so good. I need to have the Tahnician style though, i think i like it better.
Time to sleep!
