So today was my first full day in Tahiti. We woke up by mats friend calling at 5am to buy mats old iPhone. I guess he really really wanted it haha. 500 bucks for a used iPhone 3GS?? Crazy. But I guess that's just how it is in Tahiti. We stayed up and ran out to the breakfast truck that rolls by every morning, honking their horn. We bought two bagettes, mango juice, and pineapple juice. The bread and juice here is amazing. So fresh, and of course French people know how to make great bread! After we are we took the stand up race board and the oc1 canoe out for a 6mi paddle around the lagoon. We went out to the wire sand and coral area right behind the house first. I chased some sting rays and then jumped in to do some snorkeling and also to practice blowing my ring bubbles. I didn't do so great with the bubbles but did get a couple pics. The water was so clear, even with being overcast. I saw A triggerfish, trumpet fish (3ft!), and a bunch of other fish that I don't know the names of. The sting rays were pretty cool. Hopefully we can hang out with them more if we bring some food. Fish seem to instantly trust you if you offer up food. After snorkeling we paddled over to a pass opening in the lagoon. We both paddled up the waves and against the wind, turned around and then caught some down wind waves. I traded with mat and then I used the oc1. That canoe is such a work out. It kicks your butt for sure. We then paddled in, cleaned up and then headed to Yvon's shop to check out the Sup and oc1 factory. After that we helped Yvon take a few boards to the commercial harbor to have them shipped to Bora Bora. Along the way back we grabbed some traditional Tahitian pastry. So good.
The rain was pouring when we got back so we just hung out, made dinner, and now we are working on the kite for the gopro setup we are going to try.
