Downtown at OGs, WFH day.

Phew. Today was pretty awesome. I am so tired right now that I am dozing off in front of my laptop.. but I need to get this post made now before I goto sleep. This am I woke up early, bought bread for Tim, and then went to work from the porch. At around 7:45 Maricel picked us up and drove us downtown. We stopped at a chinese owned grocery store to grab something to eat for breakfast. The owners and workers ignored us as we waited to pay for our items. A line started to form, but the workers just kept working on some plastic thing. Mat blurts out, hey cmon, your store is already expensive enough I don't want to wait and pay your high prices.. then the lady came right over. The Tahitians behind us laughed.

We got to OGs in about a hour and a half I think, traffic was slow, and it is only one lane for 99% of the drive from the end of the road. We got to OGs place and were stoked to see him. I don't think I've seen him for at least two years. OG is my first friend that I met who is from Tahiti, and he also invited me out here 5 years ago for two weeks.

We hung out here for a while, talking and catching up. I checked out his house's remodel. It looks amazing. So well made and total craftsmanship. High quality, heavy hardwood doors and trim. The floors are nice slate (i think) and the kitchen is very nice too. All the bathrooms are amazing too. He said it took over a year for the workers to get it going, and they are still doing stuff here and there. I played with his two huge dogs, boba and snoop. Boba is a beast. when he barks he sounds like a monster, not a dog. No one will ever set foot on OGs property, his dogs are simply too scary looking haha. But they are sweet dogs and love attention. Soon after we got here I setup for work and started at it again. it got kind of hot so mat and I jumped in the pool to cool down. At this point we got a message from Tim that it was dumping rain at the end of the road. It hadn't rained that hard for a month I guess. I really lucked out on weather this trip, so far. about a hour later the rain had reached us. It was a downpour.. we decided to go swim since it was raining, and that was awesome. The rain made your head cold, but your body was so warm in the pool. such a weird feeling to go underwater to warm up. We got some fun pics of us hanging out in the awesome pool. The view from OGs backyard is unreal. I actually have to large prints of his view printed on canvas at my house back home.

I had a google hangout video conference with my mom and my sister. I was able to show them my view from the video chat stream. It looks pretty insane here at sunsets, I watched most of it from the lawn.

We went out to the market to grab some lunch and then I went back to work. We hung out for a while, just talking and laughing. OG's parents were down at the pool guest house and chill area down there at the bottom of the log, and OG's gf had just showed up after she got off work. She went right to  making dinner which is awesome because she is a very good cook. She cooked Rhino fish and some other fish as well. I don't know what the desert she made was called but OMG it was delicious  So many layers of awesomeness. I wish I could cook half as well as she can haha.

We all ate dinner together as a big group. I couldn't participate in most of the conversations because they were speaking in french, however I can eat so that kept me busy. After dinner we hung out a little bit more and then I got to work on my pics and here I am writing this blog. I have to get up at 5:30 again tomorrow for my 6am local time meeting... ouch!

nite.

Last day at the end of the road

Today was my last day at the end of the road (Vairao). This was also my first day working from home, from Tahiti. I think this might have been a bad idea lol.

I was up at 5:30am today, since my work day started at 8am. I had a long conference call to be on, so I did that while Mat and Tim went surfing. My work day was pretty rough. It got really hot under the backyard porch. I put the water hose on the roof and rigged it to spray water on the metal roof to help cool things down. It actually worked really well! I wasn't too bummed about not being able to go surfing because my toe is still healing up from underwater rock running yesterday.

I really didn't do much the rest of the work day besides work. I did pick a couple coconuts and Tim showed me how to open them to drink them. So that was fun.

In the evening all three of us went out to surf. The spot wasn't doing to where on the outside where i was needing to surf with the NUI Fourteen. It was really choppy and had a ton of current from the lagoon pouring out to sea (tide). To catch a wave you had to be on the inside.. and sure enough big sets rolled through and cleaned everyone up. I didn't want to break the board so I went in early. I could have surfed the other SUP surfboard but I figured I should quit while I was ahead. It's a hard wave only a few feet over razor blades (reef). One wipe out could have meant a end of me going into the water on the rest of my trip. I took the oc1 in and paddled around the lagoon. The lagoon was very glassy so i paddled around the coral edges, checking out fish from above.

After surfing i took some shots of the baby bird in the tree. I learned that they don't use nests, and their moms lay the eggs directly onto a branch or a Y in a branch. The babies just sit on the branch and wait until they are ready to learn to fly. I also got to see the mom feed its baby a small fish. I went to get my camera but when I came back the mom was scared off. The bird is called a "white tern".

We had pasta again, and just hung out for a bit after dinner, all of us on the internet, making fun of each other. It is only 10:00 and both of them are already asleep. They are probably way more tired than me because they took so much sun today, without any rash guard or sunblock. Crazy. I went through a whole bottle of SPF50 lotion in three weeks haha.

Tomorrow I work from home again, but we are going to hitch a ride over to OGs house to stay for the day until we take out flight to the other island...

peace.

Don't kill my plumeria plant clipping that I planted, mat.

Tahitian air conditioner (hose spraying over the roof).
