Le Taha'a island resort

The last few days have been so amazing.

On Wednesday we woke up at OGs house. I worked until 5pm PST time and then I caught a flight with Mat to goto Le Taha'a island resort. The flight was pretty much empty, but I guess 300 dollars for a flight is steep for most people here. The other option is to pay to ride in the cargo ship but that takes about 6 hours or more. The flight was so empty that they made us move to the front of the plane so that everyone wasnt in the back, shifting the weight wrong haha. It was pretty cool to see the other islands along the route to Raietea. Once we got to Raietea we jumped on the boat shuttle on our way to Le Taha'a. The boat is pretty cool. It's a really powerful boat, and you can tell it is super well made for only holding 12 passengers. I shot some photos from the back while the boat was moving, and the captain asked me to sit down. He called me a champion which mat though was hilarious. I do too actually.

Once we got to Le Taha'a we were greeted with Lai's and we went to the front desk to check in. My first impression was "wow". The place is so nice, and its basically on a tiny island in the lagoon of the island called Le Taha'a. They have the over water bungalows that look amazing, traditional leaf roofs and everything. I've heard that every five years you have to replace the roofs so keeping them like this is very expensive compared to normal roofs. At check in a Japanese employee showed us to our room. She was very traditional.. She wouldn't even look us in the eyes. It was pretty weird for us, even though it is her culture.

It was kind of cloudy so I really couldn't take too many pics that looked great. We were pretty tired so we went to the room and then unpacked and got ready to go eat. We really hadn't ate anything all day so we were starving. At dinner I ate so much bread, I couldn't wait for them to bring our food out haha. I had mahi mahi with breadfruit chips. It was amazing. The dessert I had was called Mouelleux (i think ?). It was to die for. This place is so upscale, easily 5 stars.

After eating we got back to the room and hung out a bit. The moon was full so I went into full photog mode and went out to take some night shots. I think some of them came out really good. It is kind of hard to take bad photos here though! I shot photos until after 2am PST (midnight here) and had to be up the next morning at 5:45 am for work.. ouch That's why i stopped blogging each day for the last few days!

Thursday:

We got up early and went to the hotel breakfast. The food was incredible. I loved all the fresh fruit and juices. Iam working from home now so I had to work most of the day from the room. I worked my butt off today so I could get the big project I am working on done and on track. I worked until about 4pm and got it completed, and a lot of emails sent too. I worked outside on our deck under the little roof we have out there. it was so relaxing to just sit there and enjoy the view and warm weather. All of my friends back home keep saying that the weather there is really bad and that it is just storming away there. I went snorkeling in the "garden corals" as they call it. Mat kept saying how cool it was so I wanted to check it out. He was too sun burnt to come with me. He doesn't wear sunscreen, hats or shirts, but I think he doesn't have the same sunburn pain that I get when I have them haha. The fish were amazing there. they didn't seem to care about me, and actually seemed upset that I didnt bring any bread for them. A couple of them were pecking at my legs and even looked at my pocket. Smart fish haha. I saw a huge sting ray and a big blue fish that I chased with my camera. The tide was very low from the moon so I had to be careful to not hit the corals or all the spikey sea urchins that were out there.  Once I finished working we went to dinner. I had the calamari steak and I don't remember the dessert.. but I do know it was amazing because every one i've  had here has been awesome. The restaurant is pretty awesome too. It has such a cool roof that you can see when you sit under it. The outdoor seating is mixed in with the trees. They built the structures around the existing trees so its really awesome to sit out there. Not to mention the full moons, which make this place even more romantic. I can see why so many honeymoon couples are here. Everyone probably assumes that mat and I are gay since we are sharing a bungalow haha. I could care less though, coming here is a dream come true. We went back to the room after that and I fed the fish through the floor while mat took pics of me doing that. It is so cool that you can see the water and fish under the bungalow. They have lights under the house that you can turn on to see the fish. The light seems to attract the fish too.

Friday:
I did a bit of shooting today, on my lunch break and after work. I got some really cool shots out near the pool and on the walk ways, also along the ocean on the east side of the island. It basically looks like a tropical post card over there. I got this one shot of me laying on a hammock that looks fake. that is how crazy it looks. And I didn't even do anything to it in photoshop. Mat has been taking a ton for air shots... i think we have like 6k of his pics to go through.. that is gonna suck. Rani, mat's gf came today.. So now I have the bungalow all to myself haha. I don't think mat has seen her for over a month since she has been traveling so much. At lunch I had a huge dessert, that came in a big cup shaped ice cube to keep it from melting. Prior to lunch mat and I had drinks at the swim up bar and hung out with the bar tenders. I don't know how mat does it but he is really good at picking up conversations with random people, making new friends so easily. I wish I was better at that.

We went to one of the sunset bungalows that they setup for us and took some photos for the place. The moon light couldn't really reach the place, and the clouds covered the sunset, so much for that idea. We still took some cool shots from the inside, and i fed the fish. I had mat taking pics of me doing that with the fish eye, hopefully they came out decent.  For dinner I had the beef tenderloin, which was so dang good. it was also the most expensive thing on the menu :). For dessert I had some kind of chocolate thing that kind of looked like a brownie but it was more rich. The presentation of the food here is really cool, like art almost. We had them deliver the desserts to our room because we were too tired to wait any longer and the pace was pretty slow at that time there. Mat and I ordered out lunch as room service. They brought the food into the backyard, setup our table and then told us to call them when we were done and they would come clean everything up. Pretty awesome. I had a hamburger and mat has possion cru. After we ate we actually went out and took a night shot of us standing on one of the walkways, long exposure style with the moon lighting us up. It came out pretty good, and thankfully my broken tripod didnt fall into the water when my tape job on the leg slid apart. Mat and I have been having a lot of virgin pina coladas (i know that is spelt wrong). They are so good here! We are also drinking a lot of coke too, which i rarely ever drink back home. I figure I am so active now it doesn't really matter what i eat.
